Profil: Apostel Hans-Joachim ("John") Sobottka wurde am 15. September 1956 in Duisburg geboren. Er ist gelernter Bauingenieur und seit 1981 verheiratet. Das Ehepaar Sobottka hat 3 Kinder im Alter von 17-23 Jahre.

Der Apostel ist in Kanada in den Gebieten British Columbia, Alberta, Kitchener und Ost-Kanada tätig. Des Weiteren arbeitet er in den Überseegebieten Kambodscha, Bangladesch, Pakistan, Nepal und Sri Lanka.

Welche Art von Musik hören Sie?
Mein musikalischer Geschmack ist, neben unserer Kirchenmusik, recht breit gefächert:
Jazz - alt und neu, aber nicht zu freie Improvisationsformen, Rock - vom ursprünglichen Blues, der sich zum Rock weiterentwickelt hat, über die klassische Rockmusik bis hin zur Rockmusik unserer Tage, Folk Music - besonders kanadische. Und ein wenig klassische Musik.


Ihre Lieblingsfigur in der Bibel and warum?
Meine Lieblingsfigur im Alten Testament ist sicher Abraham. Er war ein wahrer Pionier, der sein Leben dem Herrn verschrieben hatte und den Lauf der Geschichte änderte.


Gibt es ein besonderes Erlebnis aus Ihrem Arbeitsbereich?
In meinen Arbeitsgebieten wurde ich Zeuge vieler Wunder. Für mich ist es ein großes Wunder, dass Wunder - dank der Kraft und Gnade unseres Herrn - in kraftvoller Weise auch heute noch auf seine Kinder und sein Werk Wirkung haben.

What kind of music do you hear?
I listen to a variety of music, besides our church music:
Jazz - old and new, not too free form though Rock - from the original Blues that developed into Rock to classic Rock and the Rock of today, Folk Music - in particular Canadian - Some Classics


Your favourite character in the bible and for what reason?
My favourite figure in the Old Testament would have to be Abraham. He was a true pioneer who gave himself to the Lord and changed the course of history.


Has there been any extraordinary experience in your field of activity?
I have experienced many miracles in my working areas. It is a great wonder to me that miracles, through the power of the Lord and His grace, still affect His children and work in such a powerful manner also today.

Haben Sie ein Lebensmotto, wenn “ja” welches?
Ein richtiges Motto habe ich nicht, jedoch den Leitspruch: Eile vorwärts, ohne zu verweilen und lege alles in Gottes Hand.


Ihre Erwartungen an den Jugendtag?
Meine Erwartungen für diesen Jugendtag ist ein dynamisches, spirituelles Zusammensein in der Gemeinschaft mit unserem Stammapostel und der deutschen Jugend, das ganz auf unsere Zukunft ausgerichtet ist.


Auf was freuen Sie sich beim Jugendtag besonders?
Ich freue mich darauf, einige der deutschen Jugendlichen kennen zu lernen und von ihren Erwartungen und Plänen für die Zukunft zu hören.


Wie bereiten Sie sich auf den Jugendtag vor?
Ich habe die Gelegenheit nach Deutschland zu reisen und schon am Freitag anzukommen. Ich werde die Reisezeit und auch die Zeit am Freitag dafür nutzen, mich auf das Wochenende zu konzentrieren, über meine eigene Jugendzeit nachdenken, und ich werde versuchen, mich in die Situationen hineinzuversetzen mit denen unsere Jugendlichen heutzutage konfrontiert sind und ich werde versuchen, ihre Erwartungen für die Zukunft zu teilen. Ich werde unseren himmlischen Vater dafür um besondere Impulse bitten.


Was ist Ihre größte Sorge betreffend der Jugend oder wo sehen sie heute besondere Gefahren?
Mein Anliegen für die heutigen Jugendlichen ist, dass sie ihren geistigen Schwerpunkt und unser klares Glaubensziel nicht aus den Augen verlieren, und dass sie lernen, dem Herrn so sehr zu vertrauen, dass sie in allen Lebenssituationen große und sichere Glaubensschritte machen können.



Welche Eigenschaft zeichnet die Jugend aus Ihrem Arbeitsbereich besonders aus?
Die Jugend in meinen Arbeitsbereichen ist großartig. Jedes Land in dem ich arbeite, ist anders und hält für die Jugend unterschiedliche Herausforderungen und Möglichkeiten bereit. Ganz allgemein würde ich sagen, dass sie alle „durstig“ sind nach Wissen, Ausrichtung und Glaubenserlebnissen. Sie sind voller Energie, bis zu dem Punkt dass ihnen nichts lange im Weg stehen kann; sie erreichen ihre Ziele.


Was bringen Sie (uns) zum Jugendtag mit?
Was bringe ich zum Jugendtag mit? Das ist eine ausgezeichnete Frage. Ich würde sie gerne umformulieren: Was möchte die Jugend, dass ich mitbringe? Was erwarten sie von mir?

Do you have a motto in your life?
A motto as such, I really do not have, however: “Drive forward, never stand still, put everything into the hands of the Lord”.


What are your expectations concerning the Youth Day?
My expectation of this Youth Day is to experience, in the fellowship of the Chief Apostle and German Youth, a dynamic spiritual togetherness, all oriented towards our future.


What are you looking forward to especially?
I look forward to getting to know some of the German Youth and hearing about their expectations and plans for the future.


How do you prepare yourself for the Youth Day?
I will have the opportunity of travelling to Germany and will arrive already on Friday. I will utilize the time I have during my travels as well as the Friday I arrive to concentrate on the weekend, contemplate my own time in the Youth and will try to find myself into the situations of our Youth today are challenged with as well as sharing their expectations of the future. I will ask our heavenly Father for special impulses in this regard.


What is your biggest concern about the Youth or where do you see imminent dangers today?
My concern for the Youth today is that they do not loose their spiritual focus, the clarity of our goal, and that they learn to trust the Lord to such an extent that they can truly take great leaps of faith in all situations of life.



What characteristics do mark the Youth in your working area?
The Youth in my working areas are great. Each country I work in is different and therefore presents the Youth with differing challenges and opportunities. Universally I would say that they are all 'thirsty' for knowledge, direction and experiences of faith. They are totally energetic to the point that nothing can stand their way for long; they achieve their goals.


What do you bring along for us at the Youth Day?
What do I bring along to the Youth Day? This is an excellent question. I would like to rephrase it - what would the Youth like me to bring along? What do they expect of me?
